What classifies scent – and explains why one might be called cologne or aftershave and another eau de toilette – can be down to a few different factors: the strength of the fragrance, the ingredients, how effusive it is and its trail. Like a body mist, eau de cologne is the lightest, next is eau de toilette (with aftershave sitting somewhere between the two), then eau de parfum all the way up to parfum which is the strongest with a high concentration of fragrance oil.
